Omar Mahadalle

SU-IEMS

Short bio

Last updated March 21, 2025

Hi there! My name is Omar Mahadalle, and I am a master's student in Marine Biology at Silliman University Institute of Environmental and Marine Sciences (SU-IEMS). I am passionate about marine biodiversity conservation and management, currently using genomic data from historical and contemporary specimens to study the population history of the delicate round herring. My research is part of a larger NSF-funded project called the Philippines PIRE Project looking at centennial changes of the marine biodiversity in the Philippines as a result of anthropogenic pressures.

I received my Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Marine Science, with specialization in Biological Oceanography from Red Sea University in Sudan, where I gained a better understanding and research skills in the Red Sea's unique and biologically diverse marine environments.

Now I'm actively looking for a funded PhD opportunities in comparative genomics, biodiversity, and evolutionary conservation biology of marine fishes. If you are hiring PhD students or know of any resources, please contact me via omaramahadalle(at)su.edu.ph or dm me on @omar_marinebio.
